LOVELESS
Either like it or you don't, but it is very interesting.
Okok, so you might know LOVELESS and might be thinking, WTF.
I actually, really, really, REALLY love this anime.
The story is about a young boy named Ritsuka who lost his brother a few years back, as well as the issues he has. He meets a strange and somewhat creepy guy named Soubi, who says he was a friend of his brother. Soon enough, Ritsuka is thrown into a world of confusion and misery as he uncovers the mystery of the school his brother went to.
Basically, this story has quite a bit of drama and angst, yet it's beautiful music and surrealist landscaping draw you in and make you want to watch more. Of course, the anime has a lot of adult themes (including pedophilia. Yes, Soubi is 22 and Ritsuka is about...12 even though he manages to come off as a mature 18 yr old) and probably ain't for the kiddies. I admit I am a poet and an artsy fartsy gal, so maybe this is why I love it. It is visually poetic for me, it made me think and it made me feel. Most animes I watch are for squee-worthy moments (I like The Wallflower, Special A...that kinda shoujo crap...but without the annoying protagonist.)
I would consider the anime arthouse for it's vagueness, though it is also supernatural, I suppose.
Also, the manga is extremely amazing and makes a lot more sense.
I won't go into more detail, so...try and watch a bit!
