Looking for the new anime to get addicted to
It's been a while since I've watched a descend anime and I'm looking for some good stuff. It can be either romantic ( but not stupidly sweet ) or drama or anything else really.
Do you ladies/guys have any recommendations?

Well, my top three favorite anime are:
1. Juuni Kokki / The Twelve Kingdoms
A rather shy teenage girl meets a tall, blonde, blue eyed man one day during school classes. He takes her to another world together with two of her friends, but on the way there they get separated. The story starts with them searching one another and in parallel it reveals the history of this alternate world, its creatures, laws, inhabitants and, of course, why this man was really looking for her.
Pros: Rich background, intriguing characters, fantastic lore and the concept of Kirin, which is something every king in history should have had in my opinion.
Cons: The first few episodes are a heroine whine fest. Fear not, she gets a grip of herself afterwards.
More: The series is a based on the books with the same names by Fuyumi Ono. Some of them have been translated on the internet, though you should expect some very simple, luster lacking prose.
2. Basilisk
Two ninja clans are set against each other by the emperor who feared their power and thus hoped to annihilate both of them in the process. This is the tale of their death, member versus member.
Pros: You'll get attached easily to the characters.
Cons: You'll get attached easily to the characters.
More: There is a manga, an anime and a movie. Each and every one of them is worth your time.
3. Honey and Clover, both season I and II
A group of art students come to terms with growing up, falling in love and relating to the artist within themselves versus the pressure of the outside world. It's a very deep series, but also humorous. It made me cry and it made me laugh, and I must have seen it like 5 times by now.
Pros: The characters, the humor and the soundtrack, aka the finest J-pop ever.
Cons: It gets you addicted.
More: A movie based on it ran in cinemas, but I haven't seen it.
Outside these three pieces of awesomeness, I also really liked:
Berserk
Claymore
Elfen Lied
Samurai Champloo
Shigurui
ETA: Shigurui, Berserk and Elfen Lied are kind of violent. Fair warning. Claymore so and so. Samurai Champloo is completely harmless. I think. xp
But in general, if you're looking for good reviews -- and by good I mean those you can trust -- you should check the Nihon Review site. I like them a lot, they've never recommended something that I didn't enjoy.

One anime series based in a comic or webcomic or whatever that I recently discoverd is Hetalia. If you haven't seen it I recomend it. Its episodes only last 5 minutes but I can promise you this has to be by far the most random anime series in a long time. Its just awesome.

Not sure if these are helpful for you because they're pretty famous animes and maybe you've seen them but still thought I'd recommend.
Cowboy Bebop - set in 2071, the series follows the misadventures and tragedies of a group of bounty hunters, or "cowboys", traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop. My all-time favourite series.
Samurai Champloo - The series blends the action and samurai genres with elements of slapstick comedy. It is also a period piece, taking place during Japan's Edo period. By the same guy who did Cowboy Bebop.
Hellsing - Hellsing chronicles the efforts of the mysterious Hellsing Organization, as it combats vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural foes who threaten England. And it has the coolest Dracula I've ever seen. It's pretty dark and violent.
And a good mindless fun series - Inuyasha, I liked the history and characters. It's veery long though.[/b]

I know I'm a bit late (as always), but I'd really recommend Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan, series I'm addicted right now
It a rather new one (2010) and ignoring the fact that it's based on a game, and the main female character is the most frustrating, ignorant and helpless protagonist ever, this is a brilliant anime.
The story a little slow at times, but keeping in mind that it's a historical and samurai themed anime, that's no surprise. However, the main reason, you should watch every single episode is the male characters. Since it's classified as "male harem" you'll get a bunch of them. They all have distinctive and detailed (for "pretty boys") personalities and the drawing is just breathtaking. So if you don't like it for the story, you'll love it for visuals at least
