Remember those things? Crowdfunded games of which a number popped up within the past year or two. Well it turns out that quite a few were successful, and more than that... A number are now available on both Steam and Gog for people to buy In fact Steam has a handy section just for all the Kickstarter games that you can buy through them here: store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Kickstarter/And while Gog doesn't have a nice list, you can use the Steam list to see if Gog has the same titles DRM-free: www.gog.com/Of the ones I personally backed I know that... Divinity: Original Sin is complete. Shadowrun Returns is complete. The DLC for Shadowrun Returns, called Dragonfall is also complete and will be available as a standalone game too. Wasteland 2 is being released on the 19th of September. Pillars of Eternity (formerly Project Eternity) has now gone into beta testing. Release date Winter 2014. Torment: Tides of Numenera is due to release sometime in 2015.

Ah, yes the wonderful kick starters. We know them well in this house. My spouse runs around in his Desert Ranger shirt quite often, and is waiting, almost patiently, for Wasteland 2 since the delay. He is a backer and will be like a sugar hopped up 4 year old at Christmas when the release finely hits.

I admit that I've only backed solid companies that I'm pretty sure will be able to create and finish a game, I'm not really willing to take a risk on smaller ones that I know nothing about. But it's great to see just how many have been able to make it to completion from that Steam list. And I find that I back the things, then forget about them. Then at some point I remembered and went through finding all their individual sites to sign up and update my backer details etc... Then I forgot about them again. Until the other day I got my Divinity: Original Sin box in the mail! It's quite a pleasant surprise to suddenly get something that you'd all but forgotten you ordered. I couldn't resist taking a look at the PoE beta the other day too, especially as it's main plot spoiler-free. It will be interesting to see what happens after for a number of these. Will that be it? Will they make more? If they make more will they Kickstart again to do so? I wonder how their non-Kickstarter sales of these games will be.

I've just learned that Pillars of Eternity won't have any romances, I must admit I'm disappointed:(

It won't? That's a shame, though I can't say I'm surprised considering how loudly some of their backers protested against the thought of any romances (completely forgetting that both Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate 2 had romances). These days the moment you say romances in relation to video games people tend to scream 'Bioware!' and go on a rant (if they dislike romances that is). On the upside, no romances means modders will add romances, and when modders add romances chances are they will provide plenty of content (hopefully) including some that strays into more mature ratings at times... (what? Wishful thinking! XD ). I do think I recall them saying somewhere that they would try to make the game modder friendly.
