It's okay, you're allowed to like Anomen Different people have different tastes and, as you've shown, can view characters differently.
Interesting thing is I have had him in my party and have seen how his personal quest goes, his attitude didn't stop me having him in my party. Just made me roll my eyes and want to blatantly call him out on his exaggerations every time he mentioned them in conversation (and completely put me off any romance).
That being said though I do actually recall reading something about the way he is if he passes of fails the test, and it seemed to me that, after the initial aggression and trying to kill other characters that he has when he fails his test, his character seemed to even out and be a bit more pleasant? While passing the test he remained arrogant and boasting... I may be misremembering what I read though, I do like the idea of passing the test and making the 'good' choice not necessarily being the best result personality-wise.
But regarding different interpretations of characters I have the same thing with Xan. My view of Xans base character with what little information we have about him is a little different than how he is in his mod. In his mod he seems a lot more... naive and idealistic? I mean he's pessimistic, but doesn't have the dragging weariness with the world coupled with sharp snarky wit at times that I got from his original BG1 voice set (I adore his original voicing). His mod is well written, just a little different from my take on the character.
With Anomen of course most people wouldn't be willing to look into the depths of his character past his opening lines. As you say though I also recall reading that they hadn't known he was a romance when that was written, so I too wonder what they would have changed.
With a possible Solaufein mod I'd say yes, the existence of a mod for him already would certainly be a large reason why many wouldn't even consider another one for him. Another reason is that his character comes into the game so late that there isn't a lot of time left for romance to develop, meaning the best solution would likely be to extend it over the end of BG2 and into TOB (unless you went with the assumption that the PC didn't do most of the quests as early in the game as possible).
That being said however I don't know how many different attempts there were at a Haer'Dalis mod by quite a variety of different authors before one was eventually completed (six? More? For a while it seemed like every attempt was just doomed). I don't think existing attempts meant other attempts didn't try to happen at the same time. But then again none of those attempts were full, finished mods. Likewise Sarevok is a perfect example of a mod with even less time than Solaufein, yet his manages to fit a lot of content into just ToB.
So I think there's plenty of potential, it just requires someone with an idea, the time and inspiration to create it and get it coded/working. Another problem is also to write Solaufein you'd probably need at least a bit of knowledge about the drow and their language, so research would be involved there.
