It looks like IGN made a major change in the last 48 hours. The day before yesterday I downlaoaded a series of mods no problem, yesterday I went to look through the comments to make certain I wasn't goofing up a quest or to see if I had encountered a bug. Lo and behold the IGN did it again. All that is present is a Wiki with no direct to the what is it 80 thousand mod files. I know this is being talked about on BG forums because my husband saw the thread on it and wanted me to know. I beat him to it. I know NW Vault was created last time IGN pulled the page and Nexus hosts mods, but this seemed important enough to mention because of the modders who are members here.

It looks to me like an error in configuring the domain. I'm trying to figure out how to reach someone in IGN tech support and have sent two PMs from their website so far. The Vault is still up; nwvault.ign.com has just been forwarded to the URL for a Wiki for the 2013 Neverwinter MMORPG. You can still get to it by hard-coding the domain to its IP address. The instructions for the workaround can be found here. The wiki page the Vault traffic is being redirected to ( here) has the information as well. (On Windows the hosts file should be in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. Make sure to take make a backup copy of it first before editing it.) They're the same as the ones I posted to the P&T forums last year when something similar happened. My money's still on someone on their IT staff having made a mistake in configuring their website. The only reason last year's outage lasted for five days is because no one thought or knew how to contact their tech support to let them know there was a problem. They fixed it almost immediately after finally finding out about it.

I was hoping it was something simple. Thank you Sir.

The issue looks like it has been repaired.

The issue looks like it has been repaired. It's still broken for me (still needs the workaround).

Hummm All I did was type nwn mods in my google bar and click the link for the vault. I am far from tech savvy, that falls under the realm of Mathsorcerer ( my spouse). I bake, cook, take care of dogs and wrestle kids into doing their chores. Matter of fact I get to game today, yeaaa!out of to PCs and an I pad I get time on one of the PCs today.

I just tried that and it sent me to the redirected page. That page may have been cached on your system, so that you were looking at a previously viewed version rather than re-loading it. Or perhaps they have fixed it and it's taking time for the DNS change to propagate across the net, so that it hasn't reached me yet. It's difficult to know without waiting a bit and looking for other reports. For the record I sent two PMs from their website, and even found the phone number for IGN tech support and phoned them yesterday. No one there of course, but I left a message and my number to call me back. I'll keep pursuing it next week until I get a definitive answer one way or the other. If they really did intend to cut the Vault off, the least they could do would be to make an announcement rather than keep us guessing. That's one of the things that still makes me think this was a server configuration error. My (optimistic) guess is it was some noob in website support who was told to redirect some other page about the NWN MMORPG to the Wiki, and couldn't tell the difference between it and the Vault.

I'm afraid I have bad news. As of today it now appears that IGN's NWN Vault infrastructure is, in fact, being dismantled, a piece at a time. The hosts file workaround is no longer functioning to allow downloads from the site. For those still interested in NWN/NWN2 mods, it's looking like the remainder of the community is going to need to regroup on the new Neverwinter Vault. If you don't have an account there yet, you should sign up for one. The AME is already in the process of moving its operations to host on the site, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Rolo Kipp and his minions the entire file content of the old Vault as of last summer has already been downloaded and preserved. A lot of work still needs to be done to reconstruct most of the module pages on the new site so that the content can be organized and found for people interested in downloading those modules. If you have and interest in helping, they're definitely looking for volunteers.

Thank you for keeping on top of the issue. I did notice that only my PC was pulling up the site, not the family PC or my IPad, which both should have been able to do so. Any way it looks like a wait it out issue. I have bee to the vault, so I suppose I should sign up for an account there, I already have one at Nexus as well.

Thank you for keeping on top of the issue... I suppose I should sign up for an account there, I already have one at Nexus as well. I certainly recommend it. The New Neverwinter Vault is where I think what remains of the NWN and NWN2 community are going to consolidate as the games age. The AME is in the process of moving there as well. And hopefully the original NW Vault will still be around for quite a while. As of today, it is now redirecting to this Wiki page, which states that: There's a plausible rumor with technical details of what may actually happened posted here. In any event, it looks like the NWVault is coming back once they manage to fix the problem.
