Here be thread where we talk about movies. So did you knew there was a new Star Wars in the works? And it's apparently starring Brienne of Tarth, Lupita N'yongo from 12 Years a Slave and also Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher alongside Harrison Ford. Ok, that's all nice and fine, but where's Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Isn't Obi-Wan a ghost by the time this new movie is set, if it has the stars from the original trilogy returning? It would probably be set decades after RotJ.
I might be a pessimist, but I have a nagging worry that this might turn out like Indy 4... not bad when seen as a standalone movie, but not really worthy of the franchise either.

Ah, you're absolutely right... Maybe a ghost then? A recorded tape? A painting on the wall? Obi-Wan is my favorite character in the SW universe and Ewan McGregor my absolute crush... so it's a double lose-lose here. Naaah, I have faith that it's going to be good! ETA: Yes, 30 years after ROTJ, if I got that right.

Since I utterly detest Disney and George Lucas, and have no real fondness for J. J. Abrams either, I don't have anything positive to say about this latest attempt to bleed more money out of the Star Wars name. Episodes I-III were terrible enough, then to ruin the original films by making changes (HAN SHOT FIRST, and where the hell did the nub-nub song with the Ewoks go?!) and adding crap CGI and refusing to sell the originals anymore, I cannot imagine any redemption for the brand by pumping out yet another hot mess (now with moar lens flare~). Lucas is nothing but a greedy hypocrite - gee, his views on copyright and "cultural art" and the rights of the people sure changed over the years. Now, I know I will eventually see the new movie(s) because I have kids who love Star Wars and aren't nearly as jaded as I am, and I won't deny them their enjoyment just because it sends me into a fiery nerd rage. But I fully expect to be ranting before, during and after watching. What I really don't understand is why Hollywood has become so stagnant, especially in the sci-fi/fantasy arena. Other than Marvel movies, I find very little to get interested in. Everything, everything, everything is a remake or a reboot or a sequel or a prequel now. Someone is remaking Popeye ffs! And if an "original" idea does make it to film, many of them are just plain terrible, as if no one even bothered to read the script or wonder, "Hey, does this make sense? Is it even a good idea...?" Gravity was possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. I, Frankenstein was a huge let down. Oblivion was interesting, until the end when I became completely freaking creeped. (http://youtu.be/3rf5QwVAAxg <--- THIS!) I'm probably just too picky, but I don't see any reason to pay for something that barely qualifies as entertainment. Pissing me off or putting me to sleep doesn't qualify as entertainment. Yikes, I really am sorry for the ranting! The truth is, I WANT to like movies like Star Wars VII, and it kills me that I can't.

I may not think that the "Han Shot First" thing it's really that important, but I get what you mean when you say you want to keep liking a franchise, but can't. It's the same with me for the X-Men movies. The first three were amazing. Saw them countless times. I even enjoyed the Wolverine movies! I knew they kinda started to beat the dead horse at one point, but I still liked them a lot. Well, I cannot get into the last X-Men movies for the life of me. I like McAvoy, I love Fassbender, but I swear to God, every time I see them on the screen, I feel this compulsory need to yell, "PUSSY!" I know a lot of people liked it, but Days of Future Past was horrible to watch for me. If I could sum it up, it would be: Charles Xavier is a junkie who cries a lot, Jennifer Lawrence is cashing in on her recent popularity (What was wrong with Rebecca Romijn? Seriously, she's still smashing!), Young Magneto is a sore loser, Hugh Jackman will always look good naked, Wait... is that who I think it is? I just sat there in that cinema hoping I would find some cool moment to cling to, and there it was! Halle Berry being Storm at her best. For 5 seconds. Anyway. I'm glad other people liked it. It means they'll keep beating that horse and maybe I'll like the next movie more. PS: A friend linked me this.

We will have to see how this Star Wars develops. I was ok with things like some of the special effects being cleaned up, and the added Jabba scene. I did not like removing the Ewok song, it was a glimpse into the life they led. Also Han shot 1st, even in the letter box addition Guido did not get the shot off. My kids have the sci-fi, fantasy, super hero bug, and I have no idea where they got it from. Combined with the release date of Star Wars being on my birthday, we will probably go see it, just to say we saw it. Now not to argue with Song , because she and everyone else has preferences and opinions. We, not the royal we, my family and I liked Days of Future Past. True it was a wink and a nod to the story line in the comic. True Bishop was barely used in the movie. That being said Charles having a time of crisis seemed to be in my mind the thing to take the young flirty ladies man Charles to the place where he needed be,to grow up to become The Professor. Mind you this comes from a woman who opposes drug use and has been a Baptist Sunday School teacher. I told my kids that it looked like heroin use that was a problem in the 70s. "See what drug usage did to him, he quit caring about everything". I can see the logic into the character having a breakdown, he can see not only the thoughts, but the pain it caused the person. I wonder if he is more than telepathic, but an empath as well. I liked the entire "who are you going to be Raven or Mystic?" Quicksilver was awesome, even though that can't use his mutant name and must use his human name, Peter. My 13 year old daughter has a new crush, Lord help me I hope this " ooohhh a little bad boy" streak doesn't translate into real life. This movie did clean up a ton of inconsistencies in the X-Men universe that had happened over the course of the filmology of the series. Truly that was worth it to me. Now we have a clean slate and it looks like a reboot. Maybe, just maybe Charles learned a lot and did not cage part of Janes mind and create a pissed off Dark Phionex this time around. Big question at the end, "so Wolverine Adamantium or not ?" ??

I wouldn't mind seeing his own movie one day. I thought the actor did a great job! <3 And feel free to argue! I am very much aware that a lot of people have liked Days of Future Past. Many of my friends did. One of them told me, "If you're gonna see one movie this summer, than make that one be X-Men." I was like, "Uhm, no..." Opinions are just that, opinions. That's why I never take it to heart whenever anyone contradicts me. In fact I love it - expands the brain and all that!

Awesome, I adore a healthy debate as long as it stays respectful. No flames, no name calling, no belittling others beliefs. This we can accomplish. Let me say I loved the 1970s gear, it took me back to my childhood. That flower printed shirt on Charles, Ravens hat and boots, pong ( being played much faster than it could normally). The suits, oh man, the suits were slick.
