Hey everyone! Since we have a brand new forum I was thinking it would be neat to see what everyone's opinions Are. Of course all mods deserve recognition and respect, so please don't bash any mods on this thread. A lot of the mod creators themselves may frequent this site, so please be respectful! Here are my Top 5 Romance Mods, I encourage you to come up with your own! 5) Haer'Dalis Mod: This mod is great. As a kid, I used to have a massive crush on Haer'Dalis, and I think this mod was beautifully done. The character was true to nature, so true in fact it almost leaves me in disbelief that this character wasn't written by the creators of Baldur's Gate themselves. Interesting interactions, and classy romance will leave any fan of this plane-walker breathless. 4) Kelsey Mod: Kelsey is a little cheesy, but he ranks among my favorites. Fully voice-acted Kelsey is a great addition to any PC looking for a good aligned romance by someone who pays attention to you. He has his own life and his own history, too, so he makes a great addition to a party even if no romance is initiated. I highly recommend everyone try him at least once. 3) Solaufien Mod:Again, maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia for this one, but Solaufien has always been one of my favorites. He was probably one of the first romance mods out there and may have inspired a lot of the surge in romance mods coming out. I love how he doesn't mind going along with anything you do, and is mostly pretty supportive. He's also kind-hearted and romantic. If you like poetry, he's a great one to have. If you're interested in a mod that will ask about the PC's choices or inquire on philosophy, he's an oldie, but a goodie. Try Weimers Sola mod! 2) Kivan ModA mod written by the lovely Modi! This has to be the fan-favorite mod, so it would be a sin not to mention it! Modi does a wonderful job of making Kivan a great romance. Plenty of dialogue, lots of mushy-gushy stuff (ADMIT IT, WE ALL LOVE IT) and she ties up his story pretty well (what with the dead wife and everything). If you've always had a thing for Kivan since BGI, the wait to romance this broody ranger is over. AND MY NUMBER ONE FAVORITE MOD OF ALL TIME ISSss.... 1) Tsujatha ModThis mod takes a lot of slack from a lot of people, but he is my absolute favorite. I never heard anything about Tsujatha (and certainly nothing critical) until after I had played it, and I was already looong gone past smitten. I love how doting and loving he is, how fiercely loyal he is, and I love the smut that I encountered while playing the mod. If I could offer one piece of advice fr anyone looking at the mod, please steer away from popular criticisms and judge for yourself. I think this mod is severely underrated, and it's so sad to see. Give it a try, and see what you think! ALSO IF YOU LIKE ROMANCE REVIEWS CHECK OUT MY ILLISTRATED ROMANCE REVIEWS, "THE BACHELOR" STYLE: magp1e.deviantart.com/art/BG2-SOA-Romance-Guide-351221709

First let me say that I'm a complete sucker for romance modules. And romances in games in general. I simply must have a romance to enjoy the game completely and if there is none, I feel disappointed. My ex-husband always said that this compulsion of mine is plain stupid, but I don't care:) He is entitled to his opinion, as I am entitled to mine. After all, we divorced. Oh well;) Having said that, I have my preferences. My all time favourite is Kivan. In terms of roleplaying, he is the best - going through the romance, I tend to build a background story of my own (a young lost sorceress witnessing her foster father murdered, growing mature overtime, aching for her first love, etc.) My only problem is that sometimes I feel overshadowed by Deheriana and wonder - does he really love me? I also love Angelo and the bonded path with Xan (now that it has a happy ending at last). Partially it's because I have a thing for men's voices and simply adore Sister's Vigilante voice:) Angelo is funny and outspoken, he builds his own definition of loyalty, which I find appealing, and he is true to his word. I like his ideas of honor and friendship, his tales are mesmerizing. I only wish him to bathe more often;)

GURL I HEAR YOU, I CANT PLAY A GAME WITHOUT A ROMANCE EITHERRRRRR~
I had just tried Angelo for the first time a few months ago for my next romance guide. I haven't made it too far, but he's not awful. Kivan is definitely a favorite as well. The only concern I had with Kivan was the same as yours, but it was still very enjoyable.
AGAIN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TSUJATHA IF YOU'VE NEVER TRIED HIM EEEEEEEEeeee~~

My favorite BG mod is of course Gavin. He completely and totally replaces Anoy-a-man ( Anomen) You get to meet Gavin in BG 1, and get to know him, and can know him extreemly well. There are various paths you can take with him. Even after getting separated you can find each other again after escaping the dungeon in BG2. Berdline made Gavin Mor a well rounded character, I even find his flaws enduring. If I recall correctly he was a GURPS p&p character that she had and thought he would fit perfectly in a certain story line and the rest is history. I adore Gavin I romanced Anomen the 1st play though successfully. His personality grates on me and how creepy was it that the more you reminded him of his dead Sister the more he wanted to bed you ( ick factor +9 ) yep there are some issues there. I have some of the G3 mods for replacing portraits, RE, and of course I converted to BGT. I do not think I would play BG with out them. My spouse and kiddos play BGEE, and I may once Gavin is cleared for BGEE.

He is worth it in my opinion.
You may want to consult the read me about him. He is a cleric of Lathander, so he has standards and a moral compass. Chaotic / Good he will not change that and a good rep. Is a good thing. He does loosen up and know how to have fun, if you talk and flirt with him enough , and sweet, oh Gavin is just such a giving healer.

Kivan is my all time favorite. The whole thing, from start to finish, is just so... raw. I just love it. Magpie, I liked Tsujatha when I first played the mod as well. I liked the writing, I liked his possessiveness, and I thought the evil-guy-only-falls-for-good-girls was, I dunno, maybe romantic? There were initially things I didn't like about him, but they weren't enough to make me dislike the experience. It was only after I played more mods, and probably as my tastes changed over time, that those little things became more and more obnoxious, and I just couldn't see him the same way again. The worst for me is the whole calling-out-the-former-lover's name when he dies... yuck. But, I do understand the appeal, and can absolutely appreciate the effort the modder went through. It's a huge labor that I don't think most people understand unless they've done it themselves. Angelo is another one I really enjoyed. It feels like a grownup romance, which sounds really stupid considering how totally immature he can be at times. Xan is fun for me if I don't take it too seriously. If I do, he just breaks my poor Bhaalspawn's heart to tiny pieces. Edwin's mod is so amusing, I can't help but mention it. Keldorn is another good one I'd call a grownup romance. Good stuff, but it's berelinde, so that's a given.

Haer'Dalis is probably my favorite overall. I would have loved Sarevok if there had been more of him.. too bad ToB is so short. And the romance kills his RE encounter without replacing it with something similar, which is a damn shame. I bring Gavin and Aran along a lot. I enjoyed the one completed run I've ever had with Tsujatha, but it annoyed me that even after all his 'you're my life' talks you can't ask him to wait anywhere for you even for a minute. I never encountered his dreaded death call so no comment on that. Angelo, Adrian, Kivan, what little there is of Valen. They all have good points. I've been meaning to play the new Xan.

Good stuff, but it's berelinde, so that's a given. I can see why people like Kivan so much! Maybe for me it's more of a "I need to hop off this bandwagon, oh god it's so crowded on here" thing when it comes to his romance. He's good, though. Yeah! I know what you mean by the calling out Sillara's name. Shade and I are always talking about Tsujatha (It's my fault, really) and that's one of the things I bring up a lot. Oh, the changes I would make if I had the authority... But I don't think Sillara's coming back. Ugh, so sad. I would have loved to see new updates to his character, I have no doubt he would be more popular and more people could give him a chance. Angelo is fresh to me. I really want to play him, ya'll make him and Gavin sound good! Xan was beautifully written, but I couldn't get into it, myself. Not that it's horrible or anything, but there's something about his character that kind of...Annoys me? To begin with, without the mod. I never got the whole "We're all dooooomed" thing. But eh, people can like what they like. No hate for him here. Edwin is super amusing! I actually enjoyed him. I wish his character was like this all the time. They made him a bit different than his BGII counterpart, but it's a nice change. Honestly, when I heard there was an Edwin romance, I was skeptical because his character doesn't seem the type to care about anyone or anything. But they made him goofy, instead, and I kind of almost consider him a clone of Edwin, rather than Edwin himself. I really like it so far. I am stuck at the scrolls part though. Grr!) Keldorn, hmm? Damn, I have a lot to do. Haer'Dalis narrowly missed the romance mod guide, but he's gonna be in the next one. I'm thinking for the next one, Keldorn, Haer'Dalis, Xan, and Gavin...? They would be an interesting lot.

Kelsey is EE compatible, so now I am getting to know him. I adore his personality so far. look over your shoulder, make eye contact, he small waves and mouths Hi. He also sticks it to Ano. Between him and Jan Ano doesn't catch a break , giggle, love it.

I adore Kelsey. He's the reason I started writing fanfic. I couldn't not write my own version of that romance, because it just made me happy.

Juuust because I feel like it would be really interesting to see them together. He's super sensitive, smart and kind and shes beautiful, harsh, and confident. And Viconia can be really gentle and caring later in the story. Much later. OKAY WELL Maybe most of this is headcannon. XD

Honestly, I can't think of anything I'd change about him. Even though Tsujatha is my favorite, I would still change some things. But Kelsey? Pfft. Naah. He's adorable. It's hard not to pick him up whenever I play.

Kelsey's not a fixer-upper. That's his main appeal to me (that and he's kind of a nerd and I love me some nerdy boys). With him, you're not having to sit around and be his therapist while he works through some tragedy/angst/emotional constipation that keeps him from Opening His Heart to Love (tm) like so many other video game love interests.
(Similarly, that's why I enjoyed Gavin as well. Valen's about the only brooder I've ever liked romancing.)
And talking about mods doesn't just have to be character and romance based, right? Because from a story and gameplay perspective, the Ascension mod is a must have for ToB, I think.
