Besides Gideon, how is the game so far? Major gaming portals here in Poland are buzzing with mostly negative reviews, but I trust you guys more. I'm having a blast with it. What you have to understand is that this was made by an indie studio. Can't go in to it expecting amass Effect 4. I enjoy the main character immensely, because she is very much like the Boss from Saints Row. Snarky, tough, rough around the edges and hilarious. Th character creation sucks, I won't lie. Can't change hair color and the faces are pre-generated. But beyond that, I enjoy it all. Interesting story and all that. In my experience the people complaining hav been spoiled by AAA RPGs and expected that.

There seems to be a lot of negative reviews on it. One of them calls it a budget version of the witcher 2 which I find annoying. The witcher 2 may have had pretty graphics but I never liked either of those games. Comparing bound by flame a game with actual romance that lets you play female characters to a game like the witcher that seems like it was made strictly for the male gamer is just wrong to me on several levels....
That said my Steam is still downloading the game so I haven't played any of it yet. I should be able to play sometime after midnight tonight so I'm making my coffee and staying up late in hope. How is the game? Do they have an easy level difficulty for those of us who like story over combat? Is the combat repetitive and annoying like DA2 or is it slower and more strategic? Sometimes I can never finish games because there is so much repetitive fighting. Either way I'm already planning two playthroughs.
Can anyone tell me how tolerant the male romance interests are of 'embracing the inner demon'. I want to do an evil playthrough and a mostly good one. The good one will be with a rouge or ranger type and likely romance the warrior. The evil one will likely lean towards the demons fire magic and romance the elf provided I can actually do that.

The negative reviews are really starting to become laughable. "It's not Dark Souls! I wanted Dark Souls! It's not Dragon Age! I wanted Dragon Age! Ermagerrrrd, it's a copycat game!" Right, just like DA:O was a copy cat of Baldur's Gate, and just everything is a Witcher wannabe, because it's just the most perfectest game with all original ideas, ya know? Yeah, okay. I had to stop reading the reviews, lest my eyes roll out of their sockets. /rant It's pretty much like I said... don't go in to it with expectations. Take it for what it is, and it's very enjoyable. This all reminds me very much of the shitfest that was DA2's reception; people lost their minds because it wasn't a carbon copy of DA:O, instead of taking it for what it was and enjoying it for that. The only thing that has really ticked me off was the limited Character Creation, and that's a small thing. There's a fair bit of combat, and there are four difficulties you can play on. It's not like DA2 combat in that it's not "set-it-and-forget-it" type stuff. Think Skyrim, but quicker. Fights rarely last more than 30 seconds for me. I'm playing at the lowest difficulty (I, too, play games for the story instead of the combat!) and sometimes I need to fight a bit smart by setting traps in clever places, but those fights are mostly far between. Once you learn to dodge or parry effectively, you should be fine at the Recruit level of difficulty. As far as the male romances go, Randval wants you to embrace the demon (though he is accepting if you want to rid yourself of it, so far), but I can't speak for Rhelmar yet. So far, he doesn't seem to have much of an opinion on it, but that may be because I'm still fairly early in the game. Once I finish the first half of his character arc, I imagine that will change. It's hard to discuss him without spoiling you. The Demon also isn't outright evil, she's more... pragmatic? She's more the kill 100 now to save 1000 later type. If those 100 you kill happen to include a baby and the cutest kitten you ever saw, so be it.

It sounds awesome so far auddi. I may have to switch my playthrough plan and romance Randval first so I can get the need to play the fire demon path out of my system. I like the idea of the demon being not completely evil but a being with its own purpose and goals. The warrior companion though is starting to sound better than the elf though. And I played saints row the third and I loved the female boss. I always played with voice 2 and I loved her. If the main character is like her I will likely enjoy the game a great deal. I should be able to play around 2:30 am tonight and so I'm crossing my fingers and caffeinating up for a long night!

Ohh, it must be coming out pretty soon here then.
Ah there we go, releases on the 16th here, siiigghh.
And yeah I'd rather play a game myself or hear what people I know think than listen to reviews that often focus on things which I don't care about.

I've started the game, but for now I'm struggling with controls:) Being totally and utterly right-handed, I always have problems with balancing keyboard and mouse at the same time. And managing all the options is not so easy, either. I just can't remember them all for the moment;) It requires some practice I presume.

I wish you luck with the mouse and keyboard. I just caved in and used a controller.

Okay, so since my hubby and I were stuck living in hotels for three weeks while house hunting in between homes (in case you need someone to tell you this, I don't recommend selling your house without having a house to move into afterward...), I finally had some time to try this game. Thank God for my PS3 and big hotel HD TVs.
It took me a good while to get a grip on the combat, but I think it was probably easier on console than it would be on PC. My first character was a split hybrid ranger/pyro (no demon, 100% human), and if I could land the good sneak attacks, all was well, but I had NO survivability. The final boss utterly owned me, dead in 2-3 hits, to the point where I just gave up and started a new character. That one was 100% warrior with all extra points to pyro, and she was a killing machine! So much more powerful and durable than the first. That character went to the dark side, but I question the benefit of the demon... weakness to frost?? REALLY? She is stuck at the final battle as well, but because of laziness and not inability this time. That last fight is just so much work, even on baby difficulty.
I really, really liked the characters (some were a bit flat, but certainly not the worst I've ever seen) and the story (even if it was a bit lacking at points, needed more flesh in Act 3, or an extra act in between 2 and 3 or something). I think with a little more refinement, the game could have been on par with big name games. Better combat balance, more sidequests in later acts, more flesh near the end, and REAL companion interactions (and romances) and it would have been rocketed to awesome status. As it stands, it's a fun diversion and a purchase I do not regret in the least.
Also, I wanted to romance the pants off of Buffalo so, so bad. Do want.

Everyone loves the last boss. I eventually got desperate and crafted 200 crossbow bolts. Circled him and gave him the porcupine treatment. Worked like a charm. You just can't be too far away since crossbows have a maximum range. Just hoof it when it tries to get into melee range and keep shooting.
