I don't have a name for this idea yet but its been floating around in my head for a while now begging to be written down. So this is where I will put it and see if there is any interest in something like this. Now please remember I am a complete novice when it comes to the NWN toolset. I would love to learn but every time I've tried I get overwhelmed by how much there is to do and I have no clue how to start something like this. So if anyone knows a good tutorial on module building for beginners or has a list of steps to follow when making one please share it along with any comments on the idea itself. Anyway here we go!
The Player Character: The PC for this will likely be restricted to being a female. I'm not sure about class restrictions but I'm thinking the Sorcerer class would likely work best for this particular idea. The main character would start off as the female child of a powerful noble who is also a wizard. In the land where they live men rule and women are second class citizens at best. The wizard discovered his daughter had magic in her blood a rare gift and went against the laws of the kingdom to teach her to control her gift. The laws state that magic can only be used by men and that those with magic in their blood are a blessing from the gods. Of course they also believe only men can have this gift and the Player is the first known female to possess it.
The Setting: The Kingdom of Levarin is ruled by a Monarchy. The king is the highest authority and he is currently very old and trying to decide which of his twin sons will inherit the throne. The princes though identical twins are as different as night and day. The firstborn is an openly cruel and sadistic man who delights in seeing others suffer. The other twin is just as sadistic and can be quite cruel too but I public he maintains a gentleman's demeanor answering requests politely if briefly and tries to hide his controlling and sadistic nature from others. The princes both have magic in their blood as does the king and the discovery of a noble outside the royal family with the magic blood sends both princes out on a hunt for the man who they at first fear will usurp their throne. Of course when they find out the PC is female plans change drastically.
The Plot: The PC's father is caught teaching magic to her and guards come to arrest them both. The PC's magic reacts to her grief and rage and kills the guards as they try to take her and her father away. Her father realizing the danger gives her an old artifact of his that is said to help control magic of the blood and tells her to take the portal to his forest refuge. He closes the portal behind her leaving her stranded in the old forest on the kingdoms borders. She soon discovers that the amulet she wears is cursed. She starts to hear a voice in her mind and soon she begins to see visions of a demon before her. The demon is draining away her magic and life and she cannot remove the amulet without killing herself in the process. The demon offers her a deal. She must kill another with magic in their blood to save her own life.....but that means killing a member of the royal family. Meanwhile the two princes have discovered that another with magic in their blood exisits and will stop and nothing to find this person. She has three options. Kill one of the princes, kill the aging king or let herself die. Though the princes have their own agenda they may be willing to help her and the demon slowly becomes attached to her as well not revealing that even if she kills another with the magic blood he will not leave her....but he will become stronger instead and have no need to drain her energy.
If anyone has any comments, ideas or help in getting this started let me know!

Ooh, this sounds interesting. If I may ask, why a mod and not say, a piece of fiction or a webcomic?

I'm glad you like it! I have always wanted to learn to make a mod and that is why my first idea was to create it in the Neverwinter Nights Toolset. I could also write it out as a fiction story instead but I'm not sure what exactly a webcomic is. Is like normal comics only online? I can't draw very well so if it involves a lot of drawing it probably won't work for me. Hmm what do you think should I make it a story instead of a mod? I like both ideas really and I could write a story much easier than I could make a mod.

I like both ideas really and I could write a story much easier than I could make a mod. Of course! I think it's a great idea! The only reason I ask is because it may feel really limiting for a player to only get to play as a female spell user. That's not to say it's not possible to get a good experience, of course! We have plenty of people here who enjoy ADWR, for example; In this mod you play as a female rogue. You can multiclass here, but again, it is kind of limiting that you can't really get the full experience playing as any other class. It's your mod though, and of course it isn't unplayable without the option to choose, it's just something to consider. A Webcomic is usually just a comic posted online for free. There are a lot of hosting sites that can get your story out there faster than writing a book and to a wider audience. Plus you have the ability to get ad revenue if your idea really pans out and people like it a lot. The only thing is, you'd need an artist or you'd need to be an artist. Unless you want to pay someone to draw it for you, this may not be the most cost efficient option UNLESS you believe strongly in your idea, or you want to learn about art. Again, just a suggestion! I think if you want to make a mod, you definitely chose the right engine to begin learning. NWN is really versatile, and you can manage things all on your own with out the use of a team. There are a lot of people here on the forums who are also able and happy to assist in any way with coding, ect. There's a thread here about Sanctum of the Archmage and there's some good information there from it's author if you'd like to look him up. He can probably steer you straight if you are entertaining the idea of modding. Either way, it's your masterpiece. I can see this being a really cool idea for a manga or even like a final fantasy like setting RPG. A game like final fantasy limits player choices, but usually has a great story and alot of heart like your idea. There are lots of things you can download to make your own JRPG-inspired game, too, if you're interested in that: www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rpgmakerweb.com%2F&ei=P3BAU9rRGM2wiQeP1oCQDQ&usg=AFQjCNF05xpXVavtovvN8-xn8s3yQyr3NQ&sig2=i6W1iLszqQcAH4Lzt_tRdg&bvm=bv.64125504,d.aGc

I really like the idea of it becoming a game of its own and that link you posted looks like it would be very useful if I went that route. The RPG Maker VX Ace in particular looks easy to use and might be just what I'm looking for. I will think on it a little longer before I decide. The webcomic idea is interesting but I'm not a very good artist so I would have to either learn to draw properly or pay someone to draw for me so that's is out for now. I think its down to fiction, a Neverwinter Nights module or an RPG made with RPG maker. I would have to pay for the software for RPG Maker but it looks like it would pay off in the end and either way its not as much as I've paid to get all the Sims 2 & 3 games. Its doable.

If you are thinking about using RPG Maker, then steam has a demo version called RPG Maker VX Ace Lite. You can't write any custom scripts on it and its a bit more bare bones than the full version, but it gives you a good idea how the full version works and what it's capable of. Since 70$ dollars is a bit much if the program is not really your type. Also, the RPG maker sometimes goes on sale, so you might be able to get it cheaper. There are also plenty of tutorials for it and from what I can see, the Rpg Maker community is very nice.
Just remember to take it slow. Plan out the story a bit before starting to think about the setup. Do some pondering and remember to stay hydrated. Because the idea sounds very interesting and I would very much like to see it come alive.

Out of curiousity: Did you go anywhere further with the idea?

I've been thinking it over and I think I'm going to try and an make it a Neverwinter Nights module rather than its own game. I have seen some amazing modules done with that toolset and I would prefer to start there and work my way up to other things. I've been playing with the toolset and looking up guides the past couple weeks. I've also been thinking of extra plot twists, character personalities and how I want to handle certain things. Of course I am moving fairly slow as I have never used the toolset before but hopefully I will make some visible progress soon. But I'm glad you asked! It means someone other than me might play it once its finished.

New Neverwinter modules are always welcome. If you haven't heard of it already, there is a script editor on the Neverwinter vault by Lilac Soul. It helps you create simple scripts and it's very easy to use. nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=other.detail&id=625

Thank you very much for that link! I was wondering how I was going to manage scripting when I know nothing about it. If anyone has advice or links to tutorials or other helpful programs feel free to share them with me. I'm in the read as much as I can and plan things out faze. Also is there a certain order in which I should or need to do things? I like to be organized when I do projects like this so if any other NWN modders have a checklist or a process they follow when working on modules please share with me. I know everyone works differently but it would be nice to have some kind of outline to follow so I don't get too lost when trying to make this.
