Valen-Romance problem
Hey there, newbie here
I'm having problems with the Valen-romance... I've just finished chapter 2, installed the fix so I had all talks with him and given the right responses too. But in chapter 3 after the reaper summons him, and we're in Cania nothing happens... No conversation, no nothing. But there's supposed to be one, right? Is this a bug or maybe I messed something up?
Thanks in advance and sorry if I posted in the wrong section

Try speaking with him and choosing the option? "what did you want to say earlier?"

Try resting, if you haven't yet done. The talk doesn't happen immediately when I've played it anyway - if nothing is done to try and move it on it usually happens after I'm part way through a quest.

Valsharess: Unfortunately, there's no such option
quickthorn: I already tried resting.. Then maybe it'll happen after a quest, I'll try it

I usually get the talk when I go into (or maybe it's out of... ) the Sleeping Man's temple thingie the first time. But, yeah, it doesn't trigger right away.

As I recall I had the same thing happen after I'd used the fix. When I previously played Valen started the conversation maybe 15 seconds after we'd been in Cania. This time around I waited, wandered around and waited some more but got nothing. So I talked to him and asked him what he said earlier which did indeed trigger that conversation So maybe a time delay was added or something?

For me it triggered once right after entering Cania, all the other times after exiting the temple of the sleeping man. Hope that helps.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I was wondering when, exactly, you're supposed to get the first talk. So far, he's bantered three times with Deekin, but hasn't said one word to me.
I've got a CG human sorcerer/rogue.

In chapter two?
If memory serves, each major talk goes just after you rest following the completion of any major quest. I had a habit of doing the avariel and golem areas first, and then leaving for the Underdark to finish the rest--kept the siege from happening until I'd finished *everything*. Doing the Underdark areas first always ended with me missing some of the talks.
Deekin's conversations have a way of overriding Valen's other ones, too. If you want to hear them all, odds are that you'll have to ditch the kobold.

Ah, that explains it. I haven't completed a single major quest point yet. I'm hoping that Deekin won't squash things, and that eventually the two of them will run out of things to talk about, since I really, really don't need another mage and I rather like Deekin, and I liked the fact that I could avoid having evil characters in my party this playthrough, but we'll see how it goes.
I did stick my head in the door of the Underdark, but decided I'd be better off doing the quests in the walkthrough order, so I went back to the city before doing any of the three Underdark quests.

Nathyrra overrides his talks as well, unfortunately, at least as far as I've seen--I never did play with her for long.
I'm just talking about the minor ones, though--even with Deekin around, Valen's important conversations will still fire, so you won't miss anything but one or two opportunities to tease the tiefling.

Yes. I like Nathyrra (and Deekin), but I dumped them a couple of times. When she or he overroad Valen's eye beholder comment and *most especially* the illithid comment.
If Valen doesn't comment when you first enter these areas dump the other companion (then pick them up again after Valen's had his say)
*Although I am giving this advice as a rapid Valen fangirl

But without her you miss the "tail conversation"
I wish there was a way to cheat in additional companions like in NWN2.
