Sumarai 7
Freaking awesome!
Has anyone else seen the anime Sumarai 7? Based on an old movie (Seven Sumarai) by Akira Kurosawa.
It is soooooooo awesome!!!
Basically, the story is a village needs to be saved, so the priestess goes for help and ends up needing 7 sumarai. It's set in this combination of...well, sumarai sort of Japan and this futuristic, seriously technologically advanced battlefield thingy. It doesn't really fit into any particular genre, so I have a bit of trouble describing it.
The story's a serial of 25 episodes, so they have to be watched in order... BUt it's totally worth it. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
AND if you're just after the man-candy, there's a sumarai for everyone out there! From silent loner, to brooding hero, to innocent and naive to easy-going, to comic relief! And they're ALL good looking...
Fantastic story, fantastic characters and fantastic setting (Who doesn't like to see a tiny sumarai cutting a gigantic, robotic bad guy in half?). One of the best anime I've ever seen. But it can be a bit tricky to get hold of. My brother (thank goodness for working siblings when you're a student, hey?) got it on Amazon or something. Totally worth it.
Has anyone else seen it? Heard of it? Did I hallucinate the whole thing because I was looking for a good anime? Hmmm...

(Psst, it's "samurai".)
I was looking for this not long ago actually, but couldn't find it. I admit that I want to see it partly because I love Takehito Koyasu, I can never get enough of his voice (and Shinichiro Miki, he's is great too!), and because there's a bunch of hot samurai guys... uh, wait, did I have other reasons? But if the animation is good, it has a solid plot, and the fighting scenes are good as well, it really can't be bad.
I do know some spoilers about this anime that make me a little bit less enthusiastic about it, but I also believe that in the end it's how things are presented that will determine how I'll feel about them, and if I get the chance to see this I definitely won't pass it up.

I got a few sample episodes on CD from an anime mag I subscribed to a few years ago, but never got around to watching it. Always looks really interesting to me tho.

I just started this series, actually!
I decided to try out the XBOX Live Marketplace downloads. It's only dubbed, but its only $2 an episode, saving me $30. I'm still not sure if its worth it, but the dub isn't that bad for the series. The little girl grates on me a bit, but overall I've seen far worse dubs, and this is somewhere around Bleach's dub quality.
I'm on episode 9, I think, and its quite excellent. I like the characters, especially Katayama and Kikuchiyo.
I have not seen the origional movie. I know, I know... I do have it on TiVo, though, so I need to get around to watching it. It is one of my brother's favorite movies, actually.

Heh heh, thanks Jello Kitty. One day I'll understnad why I always do that. One day...
Damn you, lack of proof reading.
You guys all have to tell me your favourites.
I'm tossing up between Kuozo and Heihachi... But at least I narrowed it down to two, hey?

I finally saw Seven Samurai, and I think the anime is much better having seen it. I get to compare the samurai in the movie to those in the series as well as the similarities between the two. I'm only on episode 16 of the anime, though!

I have seen the original Kurosawa movie (and have it on DVD ) but I haven't seen the anime yet. I'll be sure to be on the look out for that one.
