Ouran High School Host Club
a harem of binshounen
As a guy, I've gotten some flak for liking this show. It is totally, totally shoujo.
Anybody else like it? If you haven't seen it, its about a Host Club, which is a bunch of guys who entertain ladies, in a rich and affluent high school. It has a variety of the fetish types: a shota, a prince, two twincesters, an intellectual, and a strong silent type. I introduced this to a female friend of mine, and she squees with delight at the mention of it.

I haven't actually seen the anime - I've read a preview of the manga a while back, but I wasn't sure I liked it. I had just gotten off of W Juliet and was a little tired of the whole "girl plays a guy" thing.
But I'll check it out if you think it's worth it

Intellectual? Does that equal the cool guy with glasses stereotype? *suddenly interested*
I've been meaning to check it out. I think people who brush these bishonen series aside as mere eye candy for girls are missing out. I have liked all I've seen so far, and it's definitely not just because of the bishonen either. I enjoy looking at beautiful people, sure, but I'm really not interested enough in these young bishonen types based on their looks to keep watching. Apart from the occasional mature biseinen type (*drool*) what has usually kept me hooked on a bishonen series are the things that I usually go for in anime: interesting characters, interesting plot, good humor, cuteness.
... ... ...ok ok, and the obvious slash potential if the characters are old enough. Fujoshi powaaaaah!

One thing I just find great about the series is that the female lead is immune to the charms of the guys. I'm so used to the Fruits Basket type lead, the shy girl who is always amazed by the attention of the guys (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, I love Fruits Basket!), that I really really like the fact that she can brush them off so easily.
Myn: Don't worry, the girl playing a guy part is a small portion of it. It's mostly an excuse to get her with the guys, in the Host Club, so that they can all be part of the story.
Jello: Yes, that means cool guy with glasses. It's sort of a lighthearted comedy with romantic undertones. Since there are two possibly guy/guy relationships in the series, I would imagine there is slash potential.

*huge heart shaped sparkly fangirl eyes with a huge load glittery roses and sakura petals*
I've never seen anything that would make fun of fangirls and the whole shoujo bishonen and boy love genre this much and this well. Love all the fanservice, too. (Too bad they're high schoolers. ) The glasses guy is great, btw.. if he was older I'd nosebleed to death for sure.
I really like the gender bending aspect and the cool, fun and realistic female lead character. I also love the lightness, cuteness and humor of this anime, it's simply fun! I really can't stand serious high school shoujo love drama at all (say "peach girl" and I'll lose lunches I never even ate). I actually disliked the beach episode because it had too many such elements in it. Luckily the show got back on track afterwards. (Or in this case.. back off track, in a way? )
People who aren't familiar with stereotypical shoujo stuff can probably get this anime totally wrong. There is also a lot of, how would I say it, "genre specific" inside humor.. although a lot of it is pretty obvious anyway, like the girl school lily thing. Me, I'm totally digging this anime.
Oh, and the Renge scenes are just priceless. xD

I love Renge! Her randomly rising on that revolving platform is comedy gold, I say, gold!
Glad you like it! And you're already up there in episodes! Glad I could spread around the shoujo.

Yes Myn, join the Ouran High School Host Club Fan Club! (Well, it's not sure that you'll like it. But I just had to write that once. )

A total nutjob of a fangirl, what's there not to love? I snicker every time I start hearing that mechanical sound. Talking about comedy gold, what about those arrows and text boxes? Maybe I'm easy to entertain, but they totally crack me up.
OHSHC somehow reminds me of another love/addiction of mine, Kyou Kara Maou. It's a totally different show (fantasy, action, kinda epic, serious plot & subplots although it is a comedy), so I can't really pinpoint what is similar.. but both have lots of interesting and fun characters, some slight and innocent boy love, lots of craziness, silliness and cuteness.. maybe that's it. It may be just my kink, but I love KKM to bits. /end of advertisement

I love those! The first episode when the arrow kept pointing to the vase was priceless.
One thing I really really love are the "commoner" comments. I showed my brothers the coffee scene in episode one, and it cracked them up. Sometimes I just watch that scene when I want to laugh. It never gets old to me. Never.

So, I looked this up on ANN, and read the description. Sucked into a medieval world through a toilet?? Now there's a twist on a classic.

Well I've downloaded the first 13 episodes, so I'll be checking them out shortly. (Actually I started watching the first ep, but I pretty much passed out since I was so tired...)
