Blood+
series based on Blood the Last Vampire
I've been waiting for this for what, five years now? ^___^
Watching the movie, you can see that it was intended to be a series, but nobody ever made it. Until now! I'm not a huge fan of the movie, because it ended, IMO, prematurely with stuff left unanswered. As a series, my hopes are very high.
Bakakozou released a promo of the series. You'll need bittorrent to download it, though. Of course, since its a new Japanese release, it will be a while before its seen abroad. Thank goodness for fansubs in the meantime!
I'm just pretty excited about this one. ^^;

Is this the continuation of Blood: The Last Vampire?

The main character is Saya, the heroine of the movie. However, starting out she is a high school student who can only remember the past year of her life, and the series is taking place in 2005 in Japan, whereas the movie took place in the 1960s in America.
It could take place after the movie, since we don't know anything about Saya, and it could be the same girl. Or, it could be a retelling. That's fine with me, so long as it keeps the same feel as the movie.
The manga has been out a while; I just haven't read it. I heard that the series is based off the manga (and maybe some of the video game), but I am very very anit-spoiler. I don't even watch most TV show previews for fear of seing a spoiler. Speculation, I'm all for, but I don't want to actually know.
People who have watched Ep1 raw seem to have liked it. I don't speak Japanese, so I have to wait for a fansub, but it seems promising!

Blood+ is coming to Adult Swim if anyone wants to watch. Saturday March 10th 12:30 a.m. If you don't stay up that late, think of it as an excuse to buy a TiVo. Mmmmm TiVo...

I've been watching Blood+ some time ago. I got up to episode 13. I really should get to watching again.
I sadly can't tell if it's continuing the movie, as I have never seen that (The only Anime movies we ever got here were Pokémon movies. Also, Howl's Moving Castle was the first of the Studio Ghibli movies to come into cinemas here, as far as I can tell. It's only slowly starting to trickle over here, and I'm not very confident that we will get many Anime movies here in the near future [though now that they started with the Studio Ghibli movies, they won't stop that. Not long ago they finally released "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" here. I know it's late, but it is something.].
Oh, and you're so lucky they show Animes like that in America. Here in Germany I'm afraid the mentality is still that cartoons are solely for kids. So either the series are very censored or not shown at all. I remember one example, "Captain Future", where they took out the scenes where Captain Future's parents die, because they didn't realise the series was not for small kids (still I loved that series). That was back in the 90s.

Germany is almost the provincial backwater when it comes to animes. And if you don't have the money, it's kind of difficult to get the good ones.
And if there finally is a good series on TV it stops after, oh, the first ten episodes, is being repeated over and over until you're sick of it and then stops altogether because it's not popular anymore... I wonder why?
Ghibli movies are the only ones which are shown on TV, as far as I know.
If my sources are reliable then Blood+ is indeed the sequel of Blood - The Last Vampire. At least that's what I read in a magazine. *looks again* Yup, should be. They tell how they changed Saya's looks and all this.

Yep yep. It takes place 30 or so years after the events in Blood: The Last Vampire.

I watched this recently and loved it (especially two of the opening songs). As far as I can tell it isn't supposed to be set in line with Blood the last vampire... Though I really can't recall much of that so I'm not too sure.
At any rate, on its own I think Blood+ has quite an interesting and twisty storyline. Doesn't hurt that Haji/Hagi is just lovely too, and the cello music <3 If I recall correctly (horrible memory) it was one of those series that didn't fear character death too, which always adds a certain something to things.
